Cell-cycle-regulatory elements and the control of cell differentiation in the budding yeast

Article Abstract:

Research findings indicate that cell cycle regulation is an integral part of cell differentiation process as exemplified by budding yeast system. Results reveal that when differentiation is in response to an environmental queue, the cell cycle progression coordinates with differentiation. Furthermore, the interplay between cell cycle and differentiation is diverse.

Evolving questions and paradigm shifts in endoplasmic-reticulum-associated degradation (ERAD)

Article Abstract:

Research shows that the accumulation of aberrant endoplasm reticulum proteins undergo proteolysis via endoplasmic-reticulum-associated degradation (ERAD) and that this process is facilitated by unfolded protein response (UPR) triggering expression of factors needed for ERAD. Data indicate that absence of UPR and ERAD lead to synthetic growth defects in yeast.

Mum, this bud's for you: where do you want it? roles for Cdc42 in controlling bud site selection in Saccharomyces cerevisiae

Article Abstract:

Research suggests that in budding yeast, the cell asymmetry during cell division is controlled by the small GTPase Cdc42 by organizing the actin cytoskeleton and vesicle delivery to the growth site. However, recent research indicates that Cdc42 activity is integraed into a hierarchical regulatory pathway, which dictates a unique site for the bud formation.
