Cell cycle control of chorion gene amplification

Article Abstract:

Rapid eggshell biosynthesis depends on over-replication of two clusters of chorion genes in Drosophila ovarian follicle cells. A technique to identify amplifying chorion genes in individual follicle cells using BrdU incorporation and FISH was developed to investigate the regulation of amplification. In one gene cluster, amplification is started periodically during S phases of follicle cell endocycles. After endocycles end, amplification occurs continuously in both clusters for the rest of oogenesis. Cyclin E seems to be necessary for amplification and to hold back refiring of most origins in a cycle.

Functional intertwining of Dpp and EGFR signaling during Drosophila endoderm induction

Article Abstract:

Decapentaplegic (Dpp) extracellular signaling and epidermal growth factor receptors (EGFR) signaling play a key role in Drosophila endoderm induction. The Dpp signal and EGFR signaling are functionally interdependent, synergizing with one another which demonstrates functional intertwining. These signals initiate transcriptional response elements in midgut enhancers and create binding sites for signal-transducing proteins.

Functional and regulatory interactions between Hox and extradenticle genes

Article Abstract:

The control mechanism found in the subcellular distribution of the Exd protein demonstrable in Drosophila probably holds for other organisms also. Correct amounts of interacting molecules are produced by the mutual interaction of Exd and BX-C genes. The similarity between Hoxd10 and BX-C genes suggests the possibility of the model's wider applicability.
