Cardiovascular fitness in adolescents: the influence of sexual maturation status-the AVENA and EYHS studies

Article Abstract:

Two adolescent populations from the south and the north of Europe were taken to determine the influence of sexual maturation status and body composition by comparing their cardiovascular fitness level. It was found that in late puberty, maturation was negatively associated with cardiovascular fitness level, body composition being the relevant modifying factor.

Variation in longitudinal diaphyseal long bone growth in children three to ten years of age

Article Abstract:

Data from the Child Research Council are studied in order to model longitudinal growth changes in the humerus, radius, femur, and tibia in 31 boys and 36 girls between 3 and 10 years of age. The findings of the study reveal that the long bones of children follow a relatively simple, decelerating pattern of growth.

Longitudinal models of long bone growth during adolescence

Article Abstract:

Multilevel modeling procedures were used to model longitudinal adolescent growth of the humerus, radius, femur, and tibia in boys and girls. Growth velocity variation is much higher among the girls and the tibia is the most variable of the four long bones.
