Calorie restriction - the SIR2 connection

Article Abstract:

The effect of calorie restrictions and SIR2 genes in lower organisms like yeast and Drosophila, the physiological changes that occur in the mammals due to the calorie restriction and the role of Sirt1 in bringing about these changes in the mammals are studied. The findings indicate that Sirt1 is capable of regulating calorie restriction due to its ability of sensing low calories and bringing about physiological changes that are responsible for health and longevity.

A signaling mucin at the head of the Cdc42- and MAPK-dependent filamentous growth pathway in yeast

Article Abstract:

A new component of the Cdc42- and MAPK-dependent signaling pathway that reduces filamentous growth (FG) in yeast is analyzed using genomic approaches. The Ms2b, a FG-specific factor that promotes activation of the MAPK for the FG pathway is found to be a signaling mucin that interacts with the general components, such as Cdc42 and Sho1, to promote their function in the FG pathway.

Calorie restriction extends yeast life span by lowering the level of NADH

Article Abstract:

A test is conducted to find whether Calorie restriction (CR) activates Sir2 by increasing the NADH/NAD ratio or by regulating the level of nicotinamide, an inhibitor of Sir2. It is shown that CR decreases NADH levels, and that NADH is a competitive inhibitor of Sir2.
