CRY, a Drosophila clock and light-regulated cryptochrome, is a major contributor to circadian rhythm resetting and photosensitivity

Article Abstract:

A unique Drosophila cryptochrome gene, cry, was identified and examined. The cry gene transcription under circadian regulation, was affected by the Drosophila clock genes period, timeless, Clock and cycle. The cry protein levels were found to be drastically affected by light exposure. Also, circadian photosensitivity is increased in a cry-overexpressing strain. Thus, a specific photoreceptor molecule is involved in circadian rhythmicity.

Identification of a novel nuclear pore-associated protein as a functional target of the HIV-1 Rev protein in yeast

Article Abstract:

Rev promotes the cytoplasmic transport of suitable transcripts by targeting them to the nuclear pore. Rip1p protein is identified as a functional target of the HIV-1 Rev protein in yeast and it is found to interact with the effector domain of Rev. Analysis of the strains that overexpress Rip1p show that Rip1p is important for the effect of Rev on gene expression.

Nuclear RNA export

Article Abstract:

An investigation into how RNA is transported to the cytoplasm in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae has identified many transport components. With a few exceptions, however, the biochemical function of these components remains unknown. Precisely locating the nuclear core complex should contribute to understanding the precise role of RNA transport.
