A novel two-component hybrid molecule regulates vascular morphogenesis of the Arabidopsis root

Article Abstract:

A novel two-component hybrid molecule and Arabidopsis root vascular morphogenesis are discussed in this research communication. Xylem cell lineages are specified early in the root meristem, but phloem and procambrium are established in a set of asymmetric cell divisions.

Arabidopsis NAC1 transduces auxin signal downstream of TIR1 to promote lateral root development

Article Abstract:

Arabidopsis NAC1 has been found to transduces auxin signals downstream of TIR1 to bring on lateral root development. Transgenic plants expressing sense NAC1 cDNA show an increase of lateral roots while those expressing antisense NAC1 DNA show a decrease.

COBRA encodes a putative GPI-anchored protein, which is polarly localized and necessary for oriented cell expansion in Arabidopsis

Article Abstract:

The COBRA (COB) gene in Arabidopsis has been found to encode a putative glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-anchored protein. This protein is polarly localized and required for oriented cell expansion. Plant cell expand differentially to control organ shape and the organization of cellulose microfibrils in the cell wall is an important determinant of differential expansion. The COB gene has a sequence motif found in proteins that are anchored to the extracellular surface of the plasma membrane through a BPI linkage. In animal cells the lipid linkage confers polar localization to proteins.
