Building bridges to the corte

Article Abstract:

A new mechanism of navigation for thalamocortical axons is proposed in which tangentially migrating cells with the ventral telencephalon guide thalamic axons toward their final destination in the neocortex. Through a series of in vitro exolant studies complemented by genetic loss of function and a dominant-negative approach, it is demonstrated that isoforms of Nrg1 contribute to navigation of thalamocortical axons in the ventral telencephalon in distinct ways.

LDL receptor-related protein, a multifunctional ApoE receptor, binds secreted beta-amyloid precursor protein and mediates its degradation

Article Abstract:

The low density lipoprotein (LDL) receptor-related protein (LRP) performs the endocytosis of secreted beta-amyloid precursor protein (APP). APP770 degradation is precluded by an LRP adversary named the receptor associated protein (RAP) and by LRP antibodies and is reduced in fibroblasts genetically lacking in LRP. APP 695 which does not have Kunitz proteinase inhibitor (KPI) is a weak LRP ligand.

Twenty years of the Alzheimer's disease amyloid hypothesis: A genetic perspective

Article Abstract:

A genetic perspective of the amyloid hypothesis based on the known and putative Alzheimer's disease genes is presented. The findings indicate the possibility of developing effective strategies, which are personalized as per ones genome and genetic risk factors for the purpose of treating and preventing Alzheimer's disease.
