Article Abstract:
The relative contribution of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) to the formation of new vasculature is discussed in this perspectives article. Positive and negative growth factors are important in the establishment of the vascular network in embryogenesis, but new findings indicate that important new therapeutic paths for promoting angiogenesis exist. Hypoxia brings on VEGF expression, and VEGF stimulates angiogenesis.

Article Abstract:
Ku DNA end-binding protein has been found to modulate homologous repair of double-strand breaks (DSBs) in cells of mammals and is discussed in this research communication. Neither gene-targeting frequencies nor sister-chromatid exchange shows dependence on certain NHEJ proteins. Homology-directed repair (HDR) of a DSB was analyzed in cells lacking NHEJ components.

Article Abstract:
Action on the part of the Igf2r imprint control element on upstream and downstream imprinted genes is discussed in this research communication. Research has shown the identity of a cluster of imprinted genes. Their repression by the bidirectional action of the Region2-ICE is independent of transcript overlap by the Air RNA.
