Broad-host-range shuttle vectors for screening of regulated promoter activity in viridans group streptococci: isolation of a pH-regulated promoter
Article Abstract:
Results demonstrate that the pH-regulated promoter of Streptococcus gordonii enables the bacterium to sense changes in the environmental pH and turn on the gene activation mechanism. Data further reveal that such cue-regulated vectors are useful in research on adapttive gene expression in viridans group of streptococci.

Identification and characterization of two novel clostridial bacteriocins, Circularin A and Closticin 574
Article Abstract:
Results describe characterization of the new antibacterial peptides isolated from clostridial species in terms of their purification, structural genes encoding the peptides, and N-terminal sequence of the peptides. Data indicate that closticin 574 is an 82-amino-acid bacteriocin, while circularin A is produced as a propeptide of 72 amino acids.

Functional analysis of the gene cluster involved in production of the bacteriocin circularin A by Clostridium beijerinckii ATCC 25752
Article Abstract:
Research demonstrates that a 12 kilobase region of the antibacterial peptide circularin A structural gene encodes the proteins involved in the production and secretion of the peptide in Clostridium beijerinckii ATCC 25752. Data indicate that a minimum of five genes are required for the expression of circularin A and that an ATP-binding CirD protein together with CirB and CirC produce the bacteriocin.
