Research documenting bird populations in bottomland hardwood forests in North Carolina, along the lower part of the River Roanoke, United States, is presented. Types of bird species, their densities and specific types of habitats are examined.

Natal dispersal in the cooperatively breeding Acorn woodpecker

Research is presented concerning the natal dispersion of a population of cooperatively breeding Acorn woodpeckers. The difficulty in interpreting dispersal surveys due to the problem of accurately tracking the birds is discussed.

Inbreeding depression and its effects on natal dispersal in red-cockaded woodpeckers

Research is presented concerning the effect of inbreeding on natal dispersal in the Red-cockaded woodpecker. The loss of fitness which is associated with inbreeding is discussed.
