Both msa genes in Renibacterium salmoninarum are needed for full virulence in bacterial kidney disease

Article Abstract:

Renibacterium salmoninarum, a gram-positive diplococcobacillus that causes bacterial kidney disease among salmon and trout , has two chromosomal loci encoding the major soluble antigen (msa) gene. It is stated that protein is widely suspected to be an important virulence factor and insertion-duplication mutagenesis to generate disruptions of either the msa1 or msa2 gene.

Isolation and identification of Photobacterium phosphoreum from an unexpected niche: Migrating salmon

Article Abstract:

Six luminous bacteria were isolated from migrating salmon in the Yukon River, Alaska by identifying all isolates as Photobacterium phosphoreum. Previous studies suggest that Photobacterium phosphoreum is an exclusively marine bacterium, while Alaskan isolates are from salmon, which migrated up to 1,228 km from the marine environment.

Nonbioluminescent strains of Photobacterium phosphoreum produce the cell-to-cell communication signal N-(3-hydroxyoctanoyl)homoserine lactone

Article Abstract:

An investigation on the production of N-acylated homoserine lactonens (AHLs) in packed fish is presented. The nature of the AHL found in the fish and the AHL produced by P. phosphoreum is also elucidated, and the AHL and light production kinetics in P phosphoreum are investigated.
