Bloom of filamentous bacteria in mesotrophic lake: identity and potential controlling mechanism

Article Abstract:

The identification of dominant members of a filamentous bacterial assemblage during a bloom of such morphotypes in a mesotrophic lake is reported. The study illustrates the potential of combining molecular identification and specific fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) staining to throw light on the ecology of single bacterial populations in the plankton.

Members of a ready enriched beta-proteobacterial clade are common in surface waters of a Humic Lake

Article Abstract:

Seasonal changes of microbial community composition were studied in two compartments of an artificially divided bog lake with contrasting dissolved organic carbon inputs. Observations suggested that the pelagic microbial community of the studied system harbors two major components with fundamentally different growth strategies.

Abundances, identify, and growth state of Actinobacteria in mountain lakes of different UV transparency

Article Abstract:

The relative abundances, identity and growth of Actinobacteria were determined in the bacterial assemblages of 10 mountain lakes. The composition of the microbial assemblages in these lakes was analyzed using a set of available and newly designed fluorescence in situ hybridization probes.
