Article Abstract:
A study demonstrates that B lymphocyte-induced maturation protein 1 (Blimp1) appears to govern cellular input into the sebaceous gland (SG) since its loss leads to elevated c-myc expression, augmented cell proliferation, and SG hyperplasia. BrdU labeling experiments demonstrate that the SG defects associated with loss of Blimp 1 lead to enhanced bulge stem cell activity, suggesting that when normal SG homeostasis is perturbed, multipotent stem cells in the bulge can be mobilized to correct the imbalance.

Article Abstract:
Research reveals that muscle development in Drosophila requires myoblast fusion mediated by the loner gene, which encodes a guanine nucleotide exchange factor. Data show that loner is localized to subcellular sites of fusion and acts in coordination with cell surface fusion receptors by recruiting the other essential factor GTPase ARF6 involved in myoblast fusion.

Research has been conducted on skeletal muscle formation and growth which requires myoblast fusion to form myofibers or myotubes. Results demonstrate that after myotube formation they recruit myoblast fusion via IL-4 secretion, which leads to muscle growth.
