Birth ponderal index and body mass index reference curves in a large population

Article Abstract:

Newborn babies are classified in terms of gestational age (GA) and birth weight for GA. In a study, 100,716 children who were born in 22 maternity wards in France between 1984 and 1988 were used to estimate for each week of gestational age and gender. The results showed that Quetelet's index appeared to be a better approximation in assessing neonatal weight.

Corticomedular index of the right tibia in the diagnosis of osteopenia in prehistoric skeletal remains

Article Abstract:

The corticomedular index (CI) was utilized to diagnose osteopenia in a prehistoric sample of 133 individuals. CI values under 0.20 indicated high specificity in the diagnosis of all degrees of osteopenia, and values under 0.275 showed high sensitivity in the diagnosis of severe osteopenia. CI might be useful in determining osteopenia in ancient populations.
