Article Abstract:
Pseudomonas putida BM01 strains grown in the presence of 11-phenoxyundecanoic acid (11-POU) as the carbon source and 11-POU and octanoate as cosubstrates produce two new aromatic copolyesters. The polymers contain the main monomer 3-hydroxy-5-phenoxyvalerate (5POHV) and the minor monomer 3-hydroxy-7-phenoxyhepatanoate (7POHH). An increases in the octanoate concentration makes 7POHH the main monomer instead of 5POHV. The polyesters are characterized using gas chromatography, nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and differential scanning calorimetry.

Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to analyze the catabolic pathway for methionine present in lactococci using 13C nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and gas chromatography. Centrifugation was carried out to harvest cells grown in an M17 broth supporting lactose while 13C NMR spectra were determined using a Bruker model DMX400 wide-bore spectrometer. Results indicated that methionine catabolism by lactococci is influenced by an aminotransferase. Findings also showed that autolyzed and intact cells used different pathways in methanethiol formation.

Article Abstract:
The D-Amino acid aminotransferases (D-AATs) from Geobacillus toebii SK1 and Geobacillus sp. strain KLS1 were cloned and characterized from a genetic, catalytic and structural aspect. It was revealed that Geobacillus species seem to be a remarkable resource for new D-AATs with unique sequences and enzymatic properties.
