Biological degradation of tannins in sericea lespedeza (Lespedeza cuneata) by the white rot fungi Ceriporiopsis subvermispora and Cyathus stercoreus analyzed by solid-state 13C nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy

Article Abstract:

The white rot fungi, Ceriporiopsis subvermispora and Cyathus stercoreus, are effective agents for the degradation of condensed tannins produced in the leaves of sericea lespedeza. In a study using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, the NMR spectrum of the degraded materials revealed the alteration of the chemical constituents of sericea lespedeza leaves thru removal of the soluble and insoluble phenolic constituents of condensed tannins. C. subvermispora exhibited greater efficiency in degrading tannins than C. stercoreus.

Assessment of reductive acetogenesis with indigenous ruminal bacterium populations and acetitomaculum ruminis

Article Abstract:

Research was conducted to examine the existence, endogenous activity and competitiveness of reductive acetogenesis in the bovine rumen. Mass spectroscopy was used to determine the population size of reductive acetogenic bacteria and to quantify the endogenous reductive acetogenic activity in rumen-like incubations. Results indicate that the acetogens grow on substrates other than H2 and CO2 in situ.

Structural characterization of lignin during pinus taeda wood treatment with Ceriporiopsis subvermispora

Article Abstract:

The chips of wood called pinus taeda were biotreated with Ceriporiopsis subvermispora, in a total fermented situation for the number of days ranging between 15 td 90. Inspite of the fact that lignin is recalcitrant, some distinct fungi builded up the capacity to degrade this complicated molecule.
