Biodiversity of amoebae and amoeba-resisting bacteria in a hospital water network

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to investigate the biodiversity of bacteria and their amoebal hosts in a hospital water tank and from indigenous amoebae recovered from the samples using amoebal enrichment on nonnutrient agar. The results recovered at least one amoeba-resisting bacteria (ARB) from 45.5% of the samples of Acanthamoeba castellanii.

Impact of dilution on microbial community structure and functional potential: comparison of numerical simulations and batch culture experiments

Article Abstract:

The composition and size of a microbial community can change with successive dilutions of the culture. Successive dilutions may remove rare organisms and create more diverse communities that can withstand environmental stress.

Diet-dependent shifts in the bacterial population of the rumen revealed with real-time PCR

Article Abstract:

Researchers publish the first use of real-time PCR to document changes in microbial populations in the rumens of cows whose diet was switched from hay to grain. This approach can be used to monitor other microbial populations.
