Article Abstract:
A study was conducted on the effect of the lack of the c-kit ligand (KL) in its transmembrane form on the interaction between Sertoli and germ cells using Sertoli cells obtained from Sl/Sl(super d) mutant mice. The expression of mRNAs coding for both soluble and transmembrane KL forms were found to be developmentally regulated in the testis. In addition, results showed that mebrane-bound KL was capable of mediating Sertoli cell-germ cell adhesion and that mutant Sl(super d) Sertoli cells were incapable of binding germ cells. This was remedied, however, by introducing plasmid expressing the transmembrane KL form.

Article Abstract:
A monoclonal antibody, which is specific for an antigen expressed by alveolar epithelial type I cells, helps identify a gene, T1alpha, present in adult rat lung, fetal lung and early fetal brain. T1 alpha is significantly expressed in adult lung, while it is marginally expressed in adult brain, kidney and intestine, as revealed by RT-PCR and Northern blots. Organogenesis of the brain and of fore gut derivatives is significantly influenced by T1alpha.

Article Abstract:
Immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization and total RNA analysis of the expression of a glycoprotein-encoding T1 gene in mice indicates the presence of two different T1 variants, T1-S and T1-M. T1-M does not exhibit any affinity for interleukin-1 (IL-1), despite possessing identical ligand-binding domains as IL-1, suggesting that T1-M is an orphan receptor. T1-M is expressed only in specific hemopoetic cells during ontogenesis.
