Behavior, vocalizations and possible relationships of Xenornis setifrons (formicariidae), a little-known Choco endemic

Article Abstract:

The behavior, vocalizations and possible relationships of Xenornis setifrons were investigated. Observations were made at a Kuna Indian Reserve about 75 miles from Panama City. Seven to nine different species of the birds were studied for three continuous hours. The setifrons' foraging and flocking activities were recorded using Sony tape recorders and microphones. Results indicated that the flocking and foraging behavior of Xenornis is similar to the behavior of Thamnomanes, a regular member of the antbird family.

Geographical variation in the calls of choughs

Article Abstract:

Research describing the patterns of geographic variation in the calls of Alpine Choughs (Pyrrhocorax graculus) and Red-billed Choughs (Pyrrhocorax pyrrhocorax) is presented. Call frequencies varying by body size, latitude and longitude are investigated.

Species limits in antbirds: the Thamnophilus punctatus complex continued

Article Abstract:

Research describing species limits in neotropical antbirds is presented. In particular vocal analysis of the taxa leucogaster and huallagae, from regions of Peru and Ecuador, is examined for species separation.
