Beginnings of microbiology and biochemistry: the contribution of yeast research

Article Abstract:

This article chronicles the contributions of yeasts for the early development of fermentation science in particular and microbiology and biochemistry in general. The finding of yeasts' utilization of sugar during alcohol fermentation paved the way for further work on enzymes and their action, lactic acid fermentation, carbohydrate metabolism, glycolysis, and enzyme and coenzyme discoveries.

Sequence analysis of three Bacillus cereus loci carrying PlcR-regulated genes encoding degradative enzymes and enterotoxin

Article Abstract:

Research was conducted to characterize the PlcR-regulated three virulence gene loci employing cloning and sequencing techniques. The data from analyzing a 37.1 kb DNA sequence surrounding hbl, plcA and plcR genes indicated they were not involved in the virulence process.

Regulation of the IdhA gene, encoding the fermentative lactate dehydrogenase of Escherichia coli

Article Abstract:

Results indicate that IdhA gene encodes fermentative lactate dehydrogenase and is affected by other genes involved in the carbohydrate metabolism. Data suggest that increased sugar metabolism indirectly leads to the induction of IdhA.
