Basal metabolic rate in the Yakut (Sakha) of Siberia

Article Abstract:

A study examines Base Metabolic Rate (BMR) in the Yakut, an indigenous high-latitude population from the Sakha Republic of Russia to determine whether the Yakut show evidence of an elevated BMR. The study provides additional evidence of metabolic elevation in indigenous circumpolar groups and has important implications for estimating the nutritional requirements of the populations.

Basal metabolic adaptation of the Evenki reindeer herders of central Siberia

Article Abstract:

Research indicates that indigenous Siberian populations, such as Evenki reindeer herders demonstrate significantly higher basal metabolic rates than those of their nonindigenous counterparts. Measurements were categorized for both body weight and body surface area.
