Bactericidal actions of a silver ion solution on Escherichia coli, studied by energy-filtering transmission electron microscopy and proteomic analysis
Article Abstract:
Bactericidal actions of a silver ion solution on Escherichia coli as a model microorganism are studied by energy-filtering transmission electron microscopy. Results reveal that one of the major bactericidal functions of the silver ion is its interaction with the ribosome and the ensuing inhibition in expression of the enzymes and proteins.

Use of aqueous silver to enhance inactivation of coliphage MS-2 by UV disinfection
Article Abstract:
A synergistic effect between silver and UV radiation has been observed that can appreciably enhance the effectiveness of UV radiation for inactivation of viruses. The changes in the fluence have a greater influence on inactivation that does a proportionate change in silver concentration.

Caulobacter crescentus as a whole-cell uranium biosensor
Article Abstract:
The creation of a reporter that uses the urcA (uranium response in Caulobacter crescentus) promoter to produce a UV-excitable green fluorescent protein in the presence of the uranyl cation is described. The reporter is specific for uranium and has less cross specificity for other metals.
