Bacterial outer membrane vesicles and the host-pathogen interaction

Article Abstract:

Vesicles that are released from the envelope of growing bacteria plays important role in disseminating virulence factors for Gram-negative pathogens by virtue of their size, adhesive properties, endotoxic component and their ability to mediate toxic components into host cells. Studies of vesicles may reveal the gene products involved in their formation and the basis by which virulence factors, membrane, and periplasmic cargo are included or excluded.

Dual degradation signals control Gli protein stability and tumor formation

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to show that Gli protein accumulation correlates with tumor formation and stabilizing mutations in Gli protein dramatically accelerate tumor induction. The results identified two independent destruction signals in Gli1, D(sub N) and D(sub C), and showed that removal of these signals stabilizes Gli1 protein and rapidly accelerates tumor formation in transgenic animals.

Exonic splicing enhances in fission yeast: Functional conservation demonstrates an early evolutionary origin

Article Abstract:

A study is carried out on the discrete sequence elements known as exonic splicing enhancers (ESEs) that influences both the efficiency of splicing and the profile of mature mRNAs in multicellular eukaryotes. Details of the genesis of ESE-mediated splicing occurring early in eukaryotic evolution are discussed.
