Article Abstract:
The properties and barrier functions of Escherichia coli capsules were analyzed during exposure to Bdellovibrio bacteriovorus 109J predation. Analysis of Bdellovibrio bacteriovorus 109J predation on capsulated Escherichia coli K29 cells indicated the presence of cell capsule penetration. Furthermore, penetration of capsulated Escherichia coli cells by Bdellovibrio bacteriovorus occurred at high speeds that was mediated by flagellar activity.

Article Abstract:
Research reveals that the flagellin system functions as a carrier to generate neutralizing antibodies to the heat-stable toxin. Data indicate that oral immunization of the Salmonella carrying the fusion protein appears to be a promising route for eliciting antibody response against flagellin fusions.

Article Abstract:
Unlike Pseudomonas aeruginosa, E. coli cannot express type 4 pili from other bacterial species. These pili are surface structures that participate in many bacterial processes, including adherence to host cells, bacteriophage adsorption and colonization.
