BDNF variant linked to anxiety-related behaviors

Article Abstract:

The impact of methionine (Met) substitution of precursor called proBDNF, which is proteolytically cleaved to generate mature brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), on anxiety-related behaviors is examined. The results have indicated that the single nucleotide polymorphism might be a modifying genetic factor in the expression of a number of normal and abnormal brain conditions, suggesting a new direction in the therapeutic strategies to treat anxiety symptoms in humans with the Met allele.
