Availability of iron to Pseudomonas fluorescens in rhizosphere and bulk soil evaluated with an ice nucleation reporter gene

Article Abstract:

Soil pH is the main factor determining the iron-availability for Pseudomonas fluorescens Pf-5, indicated by the activity of an ice nucleation reporter gene (inaZ). High activity of the gene (INA) indicates low iron availability. The INA activity is lower in soils with a pH of 5.4 as compared to soils with higher pH. The INA activity is high immediately after P. fluorescens is innoculated onto root surfaces and later decreases. This indicates an initial low iron availability that later increases.

Reciprocal regulation of pyoluteorin production with membrane transporter gene expression in Pseudomonas fluorescens Pf-5

Article Abstract:

A cluster of genes linked to the pyoluteorin biosynthetic gene cluster whose nucleotide sequences are similar to those of ATP-binding cassette (ABC) export proteins, a class of ATP-powered, multisubunit membrane transporters is reported. Evidence is provided for a coordination of production and the transcription of genes encoding a linked transport apparatus, wherein each requires the other for optimal expression.

Positive autoregulation and signaling properties of pyoluteorin, an antibiotic produced by the biological control organism Pseudomonas fluorescens Pf-5

Article Abstract:

Evidence that the regulatory circuit governing pyoluteorin production includes positive autoregulation, is presented. The most familiar example of positive autoregulation is that of N-acyl homoserine lactones.
