Article Abstract:
The impact of the heavy nitrogen load on autotrophic ammonia-oxidizing bacteria (AOB) in mixed conifer forest soils in the San Bernardino Mountains of southern California within the Greater Los Angeles air basin is assessed by investigating their composition, abundance, and activity. This study revealed a unique nitrogen-impacted environment where heterotrophic nitrification apparently dominates over autotrophic nitrification.

Article Abstract:
The gram-negative, purple nonsulfur, facultative photosynthetic bacterium Rhodobacter capsulatus is a widely used model organism and has well developed molecular genetics. sacB--5-fluoroorotic acid (5FOA)--pyrE-based bidirectional selection that facilitates construction of unmarked chromosomal knockout mutations is described.

Article Abstract:
A study was conducted on the genetic structure of Leptosphaeria maculans in four field populations from France, using minisatellite markers. It was observed that the use of novel resistance sources brought about a rapid countrywide diffusion of novel virulence due to the high gene floe in French populations of L. maculans.
