At the interface between signaling and executing anaphase- Cdc14 and the FEAR network

Article Abstract:

The roles of the protein phosphatase Cdc 14 activated by the fourteen early anaphase release (FEAR) network are discussed and how these functions allow the cell to coordinate anaphase events are explained. FEAR network components and Cdc-14 are not only required for the segregation of repetitive DNA, nuclear positioning and localization of spindle midzone proteins, but also for the maintenance of genomic integrity and viability.

Cyclin-dependent kinase directly regulates initiation of meiotic recombination

Article Abstract:

The budding yeast cyclin-dependent kinase Cdc28 is found to directly regulate the formation of the DNA double-strand breaks that initiate recombination by phosphorylating the Mer2/Rec107 protein and thereby modulating interactions of Mer2 with other proteins needed for break formation. The function of Cdc28 helps in coordinating the events of meiotic prophase with each other and with progression through prophase.

Cdc14 and condensin control the dissolution of cohesin-independent chromosome linkages at repeated DNA

Article Abstract:

The Cdc14 that is necessary and sufficient to promote condensin enrichment at the rDNA locus and to trigger rDNA segregation in a condensin-dependent manner is discussed. The Cdc14 early anaphase release network (FEAR) plays a dual role in initiating mitotic exit and promoting chromosome segregation to ensure that exit from mitosis is coupled to the completion of ch romosome segregation.
