Article Abstract:
The first case study of the evolutionary processes that lead to the emergence of quinine outside inhibiting (QoI) fungicide resistance in the plant pathogen Plasmopara viticola is presented. Sequence analysis shows that all resistant isolates carried a mutation resulting in the replacement of glycine by alanine at codon 143 (G143A).

Article Abstract:
A shuttle vector designated pMAD was constructed for quickly generating gene inactivation mutants in naturally nontransformable gram-positive bacteria. The plasmid was used in Staphylococcus aureus, Listeria monocytogenes, and Bacillus cereus to efficiently construct mutants with or without an associated antibiotic resistance gene.

Article Abstract:
Two different hypermutator strains of Synechococcus sp. strain PCC 7942 by insertionally inactivating or nutritionally repressing the DNA mismatch repair gene, mutS are constructed. Hypermutation caused by repression in PnirA-mutS transformants led to an accumulation of spectinomycin resistance mutations during growth.
