Article Abstract:
Mitochondrial and nuclear DNA markers are used for analyzing the Africanization of honeybee (Apis mellifera) in Central Mexico along an altitudinal transect from 72 to 2800 m. The mitochondrial analysis has revealed that the two high-altitude populations have a greater percentage of African mitotypes than the three lowland populations, suggesting successful spreading of Africanized swarms to these altitudes.

Article Abstract:
The African Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) pattern in the Africanized honeybee populations from Brazil and Uruguay are explained by Dral restriction of the COI-COII region. It is demonstrated that the Africanized colonies have more diverse maternal origin than the Apis mellifera scutellata that were introduced in Brazil.

Article Abstract:
Presented is a discussion on a hybrid zone between two honeybee subspecies of South Africa, Apis mellifera capensis and A. m. scutellata. This hybrid zone is a good example of tension zone, maintained by a reduced fitness of intercrossed and mixed colonies.
