Associations between the ecology of virulent Rhodococcus equi and the epidemiology of R. equi pneumonia on Australian Thoroughbred farms

Article Abstract:

The association between the ecology of virulent Rhodococcus equi and the epidemiology of R. equi pneumonia is examined by collecting air and soil samples over tow breeding seasons on Thoroughbred breeding farms with different reported prevalences of R. equi pneumonia. It is found that lower soil moisture concentrations and lower pasture heights are significantly associated with elevated airborne concentrations of virulent R. equi.

Development of a dinoflagellate-oriented PCR primer set leads to detection of picoplanktonic dinoflagellates from long island sound

Article Abstract:

The report of dinoflagellate-oriented primers and documentation of presence of picodinoflagellatges in coastal waters is presented. The findings revealed high level of diversity and dominance of novel lineages of picodinoflagellates with limited number of clones sequenced, and therefore, larger-scale targeted analyses of different oceanic regions are essential for determining true biodiversity of these taxa.

Genetic variability and distribution of mating type alleles in field populations of Leptosphaeria maculans from France

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted on the genetic structure of Leptosphaeria maculans in four field populations from France, using minisatellite markers. It was observed that the use of novel resistance sources brought about a rapid countrywide diffusion of novel virulence due to the high gene floe in French populations of L. maculans.
