Article Abstract:
The associations between the barley rDNA genes at the Nor-H3 locus and other quantitative traits of agronomic importance were studied using doubled haploid populations. The results showed that the Nor-H3 locus is associated with variations in yield, thousand corn weight, water sensitivity and milling energy requirement of grain. Among these traits, the milling energy requirement was consistently associated with the Nor-H3 alleles. This indicates that this locus is a good marker for the indirect selection of endosperm texture in barley.

Article Abstract:
The conditional empirical threshold (CET) and the residual empirical threshold (RET) are two permutation-based methods of detecting minor quantitative trait loci (QTL). CET is a nonparametric test based on conditioning on markers linked to major QTLs but its applicability is limited to regions of the genome that are not linked to the major QTL. RET is a structural model for the effect of major QTLs and develops thresholds using the residuals for quantitative characterization.

Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to evaluate a formula for predicting selection response to a truncation generation for a dichotomous trait under polygenic additive inheritance. The formula was based on the threshold liability concept and on the normality assumption of the joint distribution. The formula also explains the response assymetry when trait prevalence and selection rate vary from 1/2 by a bivariate normal integral number.
