Association analysis of IL1A and IL1B variants in alopecia areata

Article Abstract:

Association analysis of IL1A and IL1B variants is discussed relative to alopecia areata, an inflammatory hair loss disease with a major genetic component. Strong linkage disequilibrium exists between IL1A+ 4845 and IL1B+395. Weak linkage disequilibrium is seen between IL1B-511 and the other two markers. Results suggest possibility of an association with IL1A+4845 in the total dataset but this was not statistically significant. The contribution from mild cases of alopecia areata is a factor, and IL1(alpha) may have a certain role in the pathogenesis of this subgroup.

An analysis of linkage disequilibrium in the interleukin-1 gene cluster, using a novel grouping method for multiallelic markers

Article Abstract:

A new method of grouping alleles, termed the 'delta method,' has been favorably compared with two other, simpler methods for analysis of linkage disequilibrium. The delta method is an attempt to maximize disequilibrium detection with multiallelic markers, by considering information about disequilibrium of individual alleles located adjacently before the alleles are grouped. A reasonable association between physical distance and disequilibrium was found.

Genomewide scan for linkage reveals evidence of several susceptibility loci for Alopecia areata

Article Abstract:

Genomewide search is performed for linkage in 20 families with Alopecia areata (AA) consisting of 102 affected and 118 unaffected individuals from the United States and Israel to define the genetic basis of AA. The analysis reveals evidence of four susceptibility loci on chromosomes 6, 10, 16 and 18 by use of different statistical approaches.
