Article Abstract:
The application of the PCR-single-strand conformation polymorphisms (SSCP) method for the simultaneous detection and discrimination of ISPalpha gene segments retrieved from pure culture strains displaying different aromatic hydrocarbon-degrative capabilities and from DNA extracted from soil samples differently contaminated with benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes (BTEX) is described. The translation products of ISPalpha gene segments are analyzed on the basis of structural information of related dioxygenase enzymes in order to evaluate the functional significance of structurally important amino acid residues.

Article Abstract:
A study was conducted that demonstrated by mutational studies that PhoB/PhoR and Pst system have conserved functions in the regulation of environmental inorganic phosphate (P1)-induced phosphatase activity as well as expression of other P1-regulated genes. It showed numerous siderophore mutants that displayed severe defects in Pho-activated phosphatase activity that were isolated.

Article Abstract:
The genes encoding the 2,4-dinitrotoluene degradation pathway enzymes are used to genetically modify the nonpathogenic psychrotolerant rhizobacterium Pseudomonas fluorescens ATCC 17400 for degradation of this priority pollutant. The results have shown the advantageous environmental robustness of Pseudomonas fluorescens RE compared with Burkholderia sp. strain DNT.
