Article Abstract:
A variety of UV photoproducts are produced in the DNA of bacterial endospores during exposure to UV radiation. A study of Bacillus subtilis endospores found single- and double-strand breaks, and cyclobutane pyrimidine dimers in DNA exposed to UV radiation.

Article Abstract:
Dipicolinic acid is responsible for making Bacillus subtilis spores resistant to all frequencies of UV radiation, including UV-B, UV-C, and full-spectrum sunlight. It seems to protect maximally against damage from UV-B radiation.

Article Abstract:
The binding of alpha/beta-type small, acid-soluble proteins causes the formation of spore photoproduct (SP) in the DNA of dormant spores of Bacillus subtilis upon UV irridiation. SP production was measured in sporulating cells of wild-type B. subtilis and in two mutants with sporulation mutations. Spores were found to be sensitized to UV as SP yield increases.
