Are Drosophila SR drive chromosomes always balanced?

Article Abstract:

Drosophila sex SR drive chromosomes, the best-known example of sex chromosome meiotic drive, and their balance are discussed in this review article. Strong sexual proportion shifts, perhaps in some cases followed by extinction, may be more common in species evolution than usually assumed. The best studied case of sex-chromosome meiotic drive is the sex-ratio trait of Drosophila. In 12 species of the genus males have certain X chromosomes called SR that produce female-biased progenies because Y-bearing sperm degenerate.

Correlated response in reproductive and life history traits to selection on testis length in Drosophila hydei

Article Abstract:

Reproductive and life history traits and their correlated response to selection on testis length in Drosophila hydei are discussed. Male longevity, numbers of sperm produced and transferred to females, female egg productivity and seminal receptacle length did not show consistent correlated responses to the selection. Potential for the evolution of reproductive strategies to change important life history attributes can be seen from the pattern of correlated responses.

Quantitative genetics of seminal receptacle length in Drosophila melanogaster

Article Abstract:

Quantitative genetics of seminal receptacle length have been studied in Drosophila melanogaster. Significant positive correlations were seen between additive effects of seminal receptacle length and thorax length.
