Architecture of the Hin synaptic complex during recombination: The recombinase subunits translocate with the DNA strands

Article Abstract:

A site-directed protein crosslinking is used to elucidate the configuration of protein subunits and DNA within the Hin synaptic complex and to follow the movement of protein subunits during DNA strand exchange. The results indicated that the protein interface mediating synapsis is localized to a region within the catalytic domains thereby positioning the DNA strand on the outside of the Hin tetrameric complex.

Termination factor-mediated DNA loop between termination and initiation sites drives mithocondrial rRNA synthesis

Article Abstract:

Addition of termination factor mTERF to a HeLa cell mitochondrial lysate-based reaction mixture containing an artificial rDNA template indeed specifically stimulates rDNA transcription. The results suggest that, to satisfy the need for high rate of rDNA transcription, human mitochondrial rRNA synthesis involves mTERF-mediate rDNA looping that promotes recycling of the transcription machinery.

DisA, a busy bee that monitors chromosome integrity

Article Abstract:

A protein, DNA integrity scanning protein (DisA) is described, that is responsible for the surveillance of chromosome integrity during sporulation. This has enabled researchers to detect the localization of specific proteins even in small microbial organisms.
