Article Abstract:
A number of genetic studies have identified several gene classes which affect embryogenesis in the Arabidopsis thaliana plant. In particular, the LEAFY COTYLEDON1 (LEC1) gene was found to control several distinct aspects of embryo development as well as embryonic organ identity specification. The isolation and study of the LEC1 demonstrated its role as a transcriptional regulator during both the early and late phases of embryogenesis. Consequently, LEC1 also play a role in embryonic processes in higher plants.

Article Abstract:
Research was conducted to determine homeotic protein heterodimer APETALA3/PISTILLATA (AP3/PI) target genes by examining mRNAs whose levels were affected by post-translational activation of AP3/PI function in floral organs. Flowers were pooled for each sample while the N-terminal gene coding sequence was cloned from a floral cDNA library in lambda ZAPII. Results showed that the expression pattern of the gene identified by differential display was consistent with AP3/PI.

Article Abstract:
The no apical meristem (nam) gene of Petunia is required during embryogenesis for shoot apical meristem formation and correct positioning of the cotyledons. As such, the nam gene product is required for normal floral development. Analysis of nam gene expression patterns in the inflorescence indicates that nam also plays a role in determining positions of meristems and primordia.
