Applications of single locus minisatellite DNA probes to the study of Atlantic Salmon (Salmo salar L.) population genetics

Article Abstract:

The use of five single-locus minisatellite probes (SLPs) from Salmo salar reveal the patterns of genetic variability of Atlantic salmon in a Spanish river, Esva. The five-loci are highly polymorphic, with the number of alleles per locus ranging from 4 to 10. In adults, allele polymorphism is independent of sex and sea returning age. High levels of heterozygosity per locus exist. The Atlantic salmon population shows a great degree of genetic stability.
