Application of siderotyping for characterization of Pseudomonas tolaasii and "Pseudomonas reactans" isolates associated with brown blotch disease of cultivated mushrooms

Article Abstract:

Siderophore typing, or siderotyping, may be an efficient way of distinguishing between different Pseudomonas strains. It is based on the fact that pseudomonads contain about 30 different variations of the fluorescent pigment pyoverdine. It was used to distinguish Pseudomonas tolaasii, the cause of brown blotch disease of mushrooms, from P. fluorescens.

Opposite enantioselectivities of two phenotypically and genotypically similar strains of Pseudomonas frederiksbergensis in bacterial whole-cell sulfoxidation

Article Abstract:

Screening of soil samples is conducted to select microorganisms with the capability to oxidize organic sulfides into the corresponding sulfoxides with differential enantioselectivities. The results revealed that one bacterial strain, genotypically and phenotypically characterized as Pseudomonas frederiksbergensis, selectively gave the R enantiomer.

Defective site-specific integration elements are present in the genome of virulent bacteriophage LL-H of Lactobacillus delbrueckii

Article Abstract:

The genome region of the virulent bacteriophage LL-H of Lactobacillus delbrueckii is compared with the bacteria's temperate phage mv4 to analyze their structure-activity relationships. The comparison is made at nucleotide and amino acid levels. Results indicate that the two bacteriophages of L. delbrueckii derive from a common temperate ancestor.
