Antilisterial activity of peptide AS-48 and study of changes induced in the cell envelope properties of an AS-48-adapted strain of Listeria monocytogenes

Article Abstract:

Research was conducted to examine the antilisterial activity of peptide AS-48 and study of changes induced in the cell envelope properties of an AS-48-adapted strain of Listeria monocytogenes. A further objective was to determine the usefulness of the producer strain to antagonize the growth of listeriae. Results indicate that listeriae can adapt to low AS-48 concentrations but can lose this trait during repeated subcultivation.

Purification, characterization, and lytic activity against Naegleria fowleri of two amoebicins produced by Bacillus licheniformis A12

Article Abstract:

The purification and characterization of two amoebicidal substances produced by Bacillus licheniformis A12 were reported. Both amoebicins A12-A and A12-B have a molecular weight of 1,430. They are resistant to heat and proteases. They exhibit amoebolytic action against Naegleria fowleri and antibiotic action against yeasts and several fungi. However, they have a narrow antibacterial spectrum.

The genes coding for enterocin EJ97 production by Enterococcus faecalis EJ97 are located on a conjugative plasmid

Article Abstract:

Results indicate that enterocin EJ97 is a new bacteriocin and its gene determinants are confined to a 11.3-kilobase DNA fragment of the 60-kilobase conjugative plasmid pEJ97. Data show that the fragment contains ej97A structural gene and open reading frames. Further, the whole structure can be considered as a transposon.
