Article Abstract:
The antifungal activity of the organotin compound n-tributyltin acetate (TBTA) in two solvent systems, Tween 80 and acetone, was investigated to know its possible use in the prevention of yam rot disease. It was tested against the yam rot fungi Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus flavus, Rhizopus stolonifer, Penicillium citrinum, Fusarium specie and Nodulisporium specie. TBTA susceptibility of each fungus was estimated by measuring their zones of inhibition. In vivo and in vitro studies showed significant antifungal activities of TBTA against the first four fungi.

Article Abstract:
Iridodial beta-monoenol acetate produced by Nepeta leucophylla Benth and the terpene alkaloid produced by Nepeta clarkei Benth inhibit the activity of mycotoxin producing pathogenic fungi. Iridodial beta-monoenol acetate is most active against Aspergillus ochraceus and Sclerotium rolfsii. Actinidine of N. clarkei is most active against Macrophomina phaseolina. These compounds are better inhibitors than nystatin. However, they are effective only when there is no growth as the fungi form normal colonies after germination.

Article Abstract:
Researchers isolated substances with antifungal activity from Streptomyces humidus and identified the substances as phenylacetic acid and sodium phenylacetate. The chemicals completely inhibited the growth of Pythium ultimum, Phytophthora capsici, Rhizoctonia solani, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, and Pseudomonas syringae pv. syringae.
