Annual survival of breeding Cassin's auklets in the Queen Charlotte Islands,British Columbia

Article Abstract:

Survival data for a colony of Cassin's auklets in the Queen Charlotte islandswere calculated using the SURGE capture-recapture program and the regression method. Annual survival estimates were similar, 0.86 for the SURGE estimate and0.88 for the regression estimate, although the former is probably more accurate. Estimated life expectancy was computed at 7.6 years with regression and 8.8 years using the SURGE method. Both parameters are higher than those of ancient murrelets breeding in the same area.

Intraspecific variability in nestling growth and fledging behavior of Cassin's Auklets at Triangle Island, British Columbia

Article Abstract:

The intraspecific variability in nestling growth and fledging behavior of Cassin's Auklets at Triangle Island, British Columbia was studied using a model that considers the timing of fledging as an adaptive strategy. Results reveal that fast growing nestlings fledged heavier and younger compared to slow growing nestlings. Furthermore, it was revealed that the nestling habitat influenced and affected fledging.

Adult survival of the black guillemot in Iceland

Article Abstract:

A new study analyses survival rates of black guillemots in Iceland using a long-term capture-recapture model. Data collected between 1974 and 1995 in the colony was used, incorporating 1,483 individuals. The study provides an estimate of adult survival in the black guillemot of 0.870, similar to previous estimates for the species.
