Ancient mitochondrial DNA from Malaysian hair samples: Some indications of Southeast Asian population movements

Article Abstract:

Hypervariable region 1 samples from of the mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) control region are analyzed from hair samples from two Peninsular Malaysian individuals, identified as 'Negrito', in order to understand the origins and historical geography of certain mtDNA lineages in the region. Results indicate that their maternal lineages belong to a haplogroup B sub-branch called B4c2, and suggest its rapid diffusion in Southeast Asia between the end of the Last Glacial Maximum and the Neolithic expansion of the Holocene.

Season of birth contributes to variation in university examination outcomes

Article Abstract:

A possible association is assessed between examination marks received by male and female students, separately, with their birth seasons.
