Analytical aspects of population-specific DNA fingerprinting for individuals

Article Abstract:

Genetic data is used for population structure analysis, and, although assay protocols are available for many allozymic loci, there are only a few loci in any particular organism, suitably polymorphic for use in population structure analysis. A reliability check on the use of DNA markers for population work is explored, elucidating an organizing principle, relating the separation of gene pools to an ability to assign individuals. The characteristics and limitations of certain DNA methodologies, such as RFLP markers, mini and microsatellite markers, and RAPD markers, are reviewed.

GENEPOP (Version 1.2)

Article Abstract:

GENEPOP v. 1.2 features population genetics applications for haploid and diploid data. The software package can generate exact tests or unbiased estimates and convert these input file to other usable formats. An ASCII input file is needed to run the program. GENEPOP options include the Hardy-Weinberg test, genotypic disequilibrium, exact test for population differentiation and F statistic conversion.
