Analysis of the ColE1 stability determinant Rcd

Article Abstract:

Research was conducted to examine the mapping of the 5' and 3' ends of a short transcript regulator of cell division (Rcd) which has facilitated prediction of its secondary structure. A bioinformatic method was used to identify the active site of Rcd while hybridization and searching for the Escherichia coli genome sequence were used to look for complementarity to the presumed active site. The failure to find a target by either of the methods led to the conclusion that Rcd may interact directly with a protein target.

Absence of RNase III alters the pathway by which RNAI, the antisense inhibitor of ColE1 replication, decays

Article Abstract:

Research was conducted to delineate the degradation pathway of short RNAI by the mRNA processing enzymes RNAII and RNAIII. Results show RNAIII that mediates RNAI degradation in concert with poly(A) polymerase and polynucleotide phosphorylase.
