Analysis of proteasome-dependent proteolysis in haloferax volcanii cells, using short-lived green fluorescent proteins
Article Abstract:
A convenient reporter system is developed by functional expression of a green fluorescent protein variant with C-terminal fusions in the haloarchaeon Haloferax volcanii. The findings provide a powerful tool for the elucidation of protein substrate recognition motifs and the identification of new genes, which may be involved in the proteasome pathway of archaea.

Communities of Archaea and bacteria in a subsurface radioactive thermal spring in the Austrian central Alps, and evidence of Ammonia-oxidisiing Crenarchaeota
Article Abstract:
The morphological diversity of the microbial communities of spring water in the thermal springs of Austrian Alps was studied using scanning electron microscope. The strains of bacteria and archaea were found in the subsurface zone of the radium 226 and radon 222 containing springs and strains of Crenarchaeota were detected to contain genes for using ammonia.

Most archaes are extremophilic and difficult to cultivate because of which one has limited knowledge of their biology. The haloferax volcanii however promises to be an ideal organism to understand and tests were conducted using these parameters.
