An origin of transfer (oriT) on the conjugative element pRSO1 from Lactococcus lactis subsp. lactis ML3

Article Abstract:

Research was conducted to show that an origin of transfer (oriT) of the conjugative element pRSO1 from Lactococcus lactis subsp lactis ML3 resides within the Tra1 region upstream of the ItrB gene. The oriT of pRSO1 was localized in the intergenic region between open reading frames ItrE and ItrD. Sequence analysis of the Tra1 region showed a cluster of inverted and direct repeat structures characteristic of oriT regions.

Development of a method for markerless genetic exchange in Enterococcus faecalis and its use in construction of a srtA mutant

Article Abstract:

The development of a counterselectable markerless genetic exchange system based on the upp-encoded uracil phosphoribosyl transferase of Enterococcus faecalis is presented. The system of markerless exchange reported would facilitate detailed genetic analysis of these important pathogens.

Copper resistance in 'Enterococcus faecium', mediated by the 'tcrB' gene, is selected by supplementation of pig feed with copper sulfate

Article Abstract:

In vitro copper resistance in 'Enterococcus faecium' (E.faecium) is seen to be mediated by the plasmid-localized tcr gene. A study was conducted to examine how the feeding of high doses of copper to piglets affected the level of copper-resistant E.faecium in their faeces.
