An expectation-maximization algorithm for the analysis of allelic expression imbalance

Article Abstract:

An expectation-maximization algorithm for analysis of allelic expression imbalance (AEI) providing a formal statistical framework is presented to test whether a candidate polymorphism is associated with allelic expression differences. It is observed that the cis-acting polymorphisms are important in determining interindividual differences in gene expression that lead to allelic expression imbalance.

Elevated expression and genetic association links the SOCS3 gene to atopic dermatitis

Article Abstract:

A systematic analysis of global gene-expression patterns helped in finding that SOCS3 messenger RNA was significantly more highly expressed in skin from patients with atopic dermatitis. A genetic association was found between atopic dermatitis and a haplotype in the SOCS3 gene in two independent groups of patients.

The genetics of congenital amusia (tone deafness): a family-aggregation study

Article Abstract:

An argument whether congenital amusia can be genetically transmitted is studied. It is concluded that congenital amusia is expressed by a deficit in processing musical pitch but not musical time and also show that the pitch disorder has a hereditary component.
