An ancient control of epithelial barrier formation and wound healing

Article Abstract:

Animal epithelia are lined with apical surface matrices, which protect against pathogens, dehydration and physical damage of the underlying cells. The findings propose an intriguing biological function for grainy head (grh) proteins in epithelial barrier formation and repair upon wounding, which appears conserved since the advent of multicellular animals.

Endothelial progenitor cells: Diagnostic and therapeutic considerations

Article Abstract:

Therapeutic uses of the newly discovered epithelial progenitor cells (EPC's) were reviewed to understand their contribution in treating cardiovascular diseases. Special focus was laid on the alteration of the number and form of the EPC's caused by various diseases, highlighting their role as a marker of vascular dysfunction.

Integrative biology of sticky feet in geckos

Article Abstract:

Geckos use microscopic surface-based phenomena to thrive in macroscopic mass- and kinetic energy- based world. A study uses this information as a premier example of integrative biology, spanning seven orders of magnitude, and a lot of interesting biology information.
